Wright Center on Aging Hosts Art Show Displaying the Work of Heather Tauschek, WMC 2004

On January 21, faculty and friends of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology attended an art show of the works of Heather Tauschek, a fourth year medical student at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Over 50 people attended the wine and cheese reception, including members of the medical student Geriatric Interest Group who co-sponsored the event.

Ms. Tauschek, an accomplished artist, has had her work featured in many important venues; two of her paintings have graced the cover of the Journal of the American Medical Association and one of her watercolors was used as the image on the 2002 Weill Medical College holiday card. In 2003 she was the recipient of the Weill Medical College's David Clayson Prize for Creativity.

A native of Alaska, Heather began painting at an early age, but decided to pursue a career in medicine. She has been an active member of the Geriatric Interest Group since her first year at Cornell, and hopes to pursue a career in radiology after medical school. In welcoming guests to the event, Division Co-Chief, Dr. Ron Adelman, said, "Heather is talented in so many ways, and we've come to view her as part of our family in geriatric medicine."

The evening was a resounding success; all works presented sold quickly, and a portion of the proceeds will be used to support geriatric student programs.
