Geriatric Fellowship Program

Arun Rao, MD
Assistant Director

Dr. Rao traces his interest in geriatrics to a young age. As his grandparents lived with his family, he was exposed to many issues pertinent to geriatrics such as generational and cultural differences, values and ideas about aging, and integrating the management of medical problems and daily life. In medical school, Dr. Rao furthered his interest in geriatrics by participating in a geriatrics elective. The ability to provide a continuum of care, manage complex medical and psychosocial issues, and learn lessons from different generations all inspired Dr. Rao to enter geriatrics after internal medicine training. Dr. Rao joined the Division of Geriatrics in 2002, and serves as the Assistant Fellowship Program Director in addition to various clinical and teaching responsibilities. He is developing a research interest in culturally sensitive end of life care.
