Emile Roy Corey Professorship in Geriatrics and Gerontology
Ronald D. Adelman, M.D. Professor of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College and Co-Chief, Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center was the first recipient of the Emilie Roy Corey Professionship in Geriatrics and Gerontology.
$2 Million National Institute on Aging Grant Funds Pain Management for NYC Seniors
Weill Cornell Medical College received a $2 million grant to fund an Edward R. Roybal Center for Research on Applied Gerontology, one of 12 such centers nationally. The grant created the Translational Research Institute for Pain in Later Life
(TRIPLL), a multi institutional and interdisciplinary collaboration focusing on implementing innovative strategies for improving pain management among older adults. TRIPLL Director Cary Reid, MD, PhD, is a Joachim Silbermann Family Clinical Scholar in Geriatric Palliative Care and a practicing physician at our Irving Sherwood Wright Center on Aging at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
NYC Elder Abuse Center (NYCEAC)
The Division of Geriatrics has taken the lead role in developing the highly collaborative
NYC Elder Abuse Center (NYCEAC). A partnership of NYC's government and non-profit agencies, NYCEAC provides a streamlined and rapid response to complex elder abuse cases through its multidisciplinary teams; works to educate professionals, key decision-makers and elected officials about elder abuse; and seeks to improve legislation and policies to better protect the safety and well-being of NYC's older adults. Risa Breckman, LCSW, is the Executive Director of NYCEAC and Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine; Mark Lachs, MD, MPH is the Medical Director of NYCEAC and Co-Chief of the Division.
The Liz Claiborne Center for Humanism in Medicine

The Liz Claiborne Center for Humanism in Medicine (LCCHM) is conceived as an educational center for health care professionals and trainees in multiple disciplines. Its mission is to enhance and integrate the awareness, attitudes, knowledge, and skills of the principles of palliative care, and to promote the profile and practice of medical humanism, throughout the institution. Randi R. Diamond, MD, is the Founding Director of the Center.
LCCHM is a co-sponsor of the
ASCENSUS Journal of Humanities, a new annual publication of the tri-institutional community. ASCENSUS explores and showcases how creative contemplation can elevate the practice and study of medicine. It is an opportunity to share thoughts and perspectives that highlight not only the art of medicine but the artistry within this medical community.

National Alzheimer's Recognition Award
ThisCaringHome.org, winner of the 2010 National Alzheimer's Recognition Award, is the Division's multimedia website that helps caregivers learn strategies to better care for people with dementia, especially how to adapt the home environment to meet their behavioral and physical needs. The award was sponsored by the National Alliance for Caregiving. Rosemary Bakker, MS, ASID, is the Director of ThisCaringHome.org. Division Co-Chiefs Mark Lachs, MD, MPH and Ronald D. Adelman M.D., along with faculty member Risa Breckman, LCSW, are Advisory Board Members.
