Geriatric Inpatient and Consultation Services

When patients from the Wright Center or other outpatient programs require hospitalization at NYPH, the geriatric inpatient and consultation service provides continuity of care. This service consists of an attending geriatrician, nurse practitioner, and fellow who work closely with other staff to care for the patient. A major goal of the geriatric team is to prevent or minimize common problems in hospitalized older adults such as delirium, incontinence, and immobility.

The team is also called upon by other NYPH physicians to provide consultation for wound care, palliative care, delirium and other geriatric issues. This must be requested by the patient's primary physician of record. Nursing Staff may also consult the nurse practitioner for assistance and advice about the management of elderly inpatients.
